In a recent analysis, former Napoli and Juventus defender Ciro Ferrara has underscored a significant lapse in performance by Juventus players during their recent defeat at the Stadio Maradona. Ferrara asserts that the Bianconeri squad committed a ‘serious’ error, as highlighted by the failure to match the pace of Giacomo Raspadori, ultimately resulting in Wojciech Szczęsny’s successful save of Victor Osimhen’s penalty kick.
The match, which took place on Sunday night, marked Juventus’s third defeat in their last six Serie A fixtures. Despite Federico Chiesa’s timely equalizer in the 81st minute, Napoli regained the lead just seven minutes later through the efforts of Italian international Raspadori.
Of particular concern to Ferrara was Raspadori’s swift response, outpacing all Juventus defenders to seize the rebound before any other opponent, including Giovanni Di Lorenzo and André Zambo Anguissa. Ferrara offered a critical assessment of Juventus’s defensive lapses in this regard.
“I think there was a serious error after the penalty save,” Ferrara told DAZN during Sunday’s post-match show, as quoted by Tuttosport.
“Taking a point home from the Stadio Maradona would have been important for Juventus’ mood.”
The former Italy international argued that Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri should be satisfied with the team’s performance in Naples even if the Bianconeri have lost away at Napoli for five seasons in a row so the Tuscan tactician “won’t be happy.”
