Bruno Fernandes, the talismanic midfielder for Manchester United, provided a candid insight into the team’s mindset during the crucial Manchester derby clash against City. Despite a promising 1-0 lead at halftime, Fernandes acknowledged the relentless pressure exerted by City in the second half, which ultimately led to their dramatic comeback victory.
Reflecting on the match, Fernandes highlighted the team’s concerted efforts to defend their box and maintain cohesion amidst City’s relentless attacks. However, he also conceded that City’s individual brilliance ultimately made the difference on the day.
While disappointed with the outcome, Fernandes emphasized the team’s determination to bounce back and fight for a top-four finish in the league. Recognizing the challenges ahead, he underscored the importance of unity and resilience as they strive to achieve their Champions League aspirations.
Looking ahead to their upcoming fixtures, Fernandes expressed confidence in the team’s ability to rally together, drawing strength from their passionate supporters. With the unwavering support of the fans behind them, Fernandes and his teammates are determined to push for victory in the remaining matches of the season.
“Obviously, it’s disappointing. I think we could have got something from the game and I think the effort from the team was there, everyone tried really hard to get the result,” Fernandes told MUTV.
“But it wasn’t possible. I said at half-time I felt the team were doing everything we could to defend our box. We knew at moments that we would have to defend deep, be together and compact, help each other, and we did it.
“But as I said before in previous interviews, I think the difference today was the individual quality from City players that made them win this game.
“We need to look forward, we don’t depend on ourselves to get in the positions we want, we’re not hiding from that. We want to be in the Champions League and we’ll try until the end of the season to get into that fourth place.
“We know it’s going to be hard but we will do everything and going into the next game at home, we know our fans will be there. They push us and we have to win the next game.”
