Under Mikel Arteta’s leadership, Arsenal is currently experiencing a remarkable run of form, having secured six consecutive wins in their last six games, accompanied by an impressive tally of 25 goals. This resurgence is sending a clear message to their rivals in the title race.
In contrast to last season, where Arsenal displayed signs of weakness towards the end of the campaign, Arteta’s squad is hitting their peak performance at a crucial juncture. While Liverpool and Manchester City have also showcased their prowess, it is Arsenal who, on paper, are currently enjoying the best form.
Their upcoming fixture against Sheffield United, who sit at the bottom of the table, holds little trepidation for Arsenal, presenting instead an opportunity to further bolster their unbeaten goal difference in the league. For Arteta, it also offers a chance to reintegrate key players back into the squad.
The return of injured stars to training and matchday squads in recent weeks has been a positive development for the head coach. Looking ahead to Monday’s game at Bramall Lane, Arteta hinted at the possible inclusion of Oleksandr Zinchenko and Takehiro Tomiyasu, both of whom have faced disruptions in their 2024 campaigns.
While Arteta remained enigmatic in his statements to the media, suggesting the potential involvement of Zinchenko and Tomiyasu, he indicated that their availability would be determined after the final training sessions on Saturday and Sunday. Additionally, Gabriel Jesus has been cleared to return to action, further enhancing the depth of the squad, reminiscent of the strength displayed on the opening day of the season.
“He’s fit enough to start,” admitted the Spaniard regarding Jesus. “However, how long he will last is something different. We didn’t want to take any risks after the result we had against Newcastle. We need him fit; he’s a massive player for us, and now we want to make sure we load him in the right way.”
Another significant addition to the squad for the upcoming fixture is Thomas Partey. The Ghanaian midfielder is poised to make his first appearance of the year, providing a substantial boost to the team after being sidelined with injury since October. “Thomas had a session before the last game, and now he’s had two or three consecutive sessions,” stated Arteta. “He should be part of the squad on Monday.”
