Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury attended Nottingham Magistrates’ Court to address a charge of driving under the influence. The 26-year-old was intercepted by law enforcement officers in south Nottingham during the early hours of January 19.
Law enforcement officials allege that the former England U21 international declined to undergo a breathalyzer examination and was subsequently apprehended at the scene. On January 24, he was formally accused of operating a vehicle while exceeding the legal alcohol limit, driving without proper caution, and failing to comply with a preliminary breathalyzer assessment.
Choudhury presented himself at the court on Thursday morning, accompanied by his spouse and appeared engrossed in a phone conversation.
A spokesperson from Nottinghamshire Police, at the time of Choudhury’s charge, stated: “Police officers halted a vehicle on Loughborough Road, West Bridgford, Nottingham, approximately at 1:45 am on Friday, January 19, 2024. A male individual was apprehended on suspicion of refusing to provide a breath specimen.”
“Hamza Choudhury, aged 26, of Rushcliffe, Nottinghamshire, has since been charged with driving while over the alcohol limit, driving without due care and attention, and failing to co-operate with a preliminary test.
“He was released on unconditional bail and is next due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on February 23, 2024.”
Choudhury has assumed a significant role within the Leicester team during the current season. The Foxes currently lead the Championship standings after completing 34 fixtures, with Choudhury being included in the matchday roster for each league encounter.
His participation spans across 25 matches in the second-tier division, wherein he commenced play in nine instances. Head coach Enzo Maresca has deployed him both in midfield and at the full-back position.
