According to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Paris Saint-Germain has shown interest in Jules Kounde, Barcelona’s 25-year-old defender, as they seek reinforcements for their backline in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Kounde has established himself as one of La Liga’s top defenders since his move to Sevilla FC from Bordeaux in July 2019. His impressive performances quickly attracted attention from several prominent clubs, leading to his €50 million transfer to Barcelona in July 2022. Since then, he has been a key figure in the Catalan club’s defense, showcasing his versatility by excelling in both central defense and right-back positions under the guidance of coach Xavi Hernandez.
Despite his contributions to Barcelona, Kounde’s future at the club has become uncertain due to ongoing financial struggles. As a result, Barcelona may be open to selling him, prompting interest from European heavyweights like Paris Saint-Germain.
PSG’s interest in Kounde is logical, particularly as they face potential departures in their defensive ranks, including Presnel Kimpembe and Marquinhos. While Lucas Beraldo has provided reinforcement, the addition of Kounde would further strengthen PSG’s defensive options, given his versatility and proven ability.
However, recent reports suggest that Kounde is not eager to leave Barcelona at this time, presenting a challenge for PSG. Barcelona, on the other hand, may demand a significant fee for Kounde, considering his contractual situation with over four years remaining.
As the summer transfer window approaches, it remains to be seen whether PSG can persuade Kounde to consider a move and meet Barcelona’s valuation to secure his services.
