Fernando Orsi, former assistant to Roberto Mancini, opines that Simone Inzaghi’s tactical approach aligns well with the demands of the Premier League, while cautioning the Italian coach regarding his current prestigious position in a leading European club.
Inzaghi’s tenure with Inter Milan is set to conclude in June 2025, and reports from Tuttosport indicate keen interest from several foreign clubs, particularly those in the Premier League, in securing the services of the Piacenza-native tactician. Specifically, Chelsea and Manchester United have been highlighted as potential suitors in a report published by the Turin-based newspaper on Tuesday.
Having previously worked alongside Roberto Mancini at Lazio and coached Inzaghi during his early years at the Stadio Olimpico in the early 2000s, Orsi suggests that transitioning to the Premier League would not pose significant challenges for the current Nerazzurri manager.
“He has a European playing style, and I’d see him well in the Premier League because it’s a league that suits his aggressive and dynamic way of seeing football,” he told Tuttosport newspaper on Wednesday, on page 11.
“However, he is already in charge of one of Europe’s top three or four teams. What they did in the Champions League last season has boosted everyone’s self-esteem, and I believe that, after the Scudetto, the next target will be to bring the Champions League back to Milan.
“Everyone thinks 3-5-2 is a defensive system, but Inzaghi has transformed it into an attacking formation,” continued Orsi.
“Inter play in different ways and they are always effective. They have many good players, but their playing style proves that there is deep work at Appiano Gentile.”
The Nerazzurri currently occupy the top position in Serie A, boasting a nine-point advantage over Juventus. However, should they emerge victorious against Atalanta at San Siro tonight, their lead over the Bianconeri will extend to 12 points.
“It’s a match point and I think Inter are more focused than in the past,” Orsi admitted.
“The Scudetto is the primary target of Inzaghi and the club and if they beat Atalanta, it will be difficult to think they can waste a 12-point lead and that Juventus will recover as many. Inter’s season is not surprising, but I didn’t expect this impact and this dominion. Right now, they seem unbeatable.”
