Joe Hart (36) has announced his retirement from professional football at the end of the current season. The decision was revealed in a video shared across Celtic’s social media platforms.
Throughout his illustrious career, which included 75 appearances for the England national team, Hart amassed a total of 690 club-level games. The veteran goalkeeper recently informed his current club, Celtic, that the ongoing season would mark his final campaign with the team, a decision he has now publicly confirmed.
A fixture in the England setup during the 2010s, Hart played a pivotal role in the squad’s campaigns at the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups, as well as UEFA EURO 2012 and 2016. Despite his esteemed international career, Hart faced challenges at the club level, notably losing his starting position at Manchester City following the arrival of manager Pep Guardiola, subsequently leading to his exclusion from the England squad. His last international appearance came in 2017.
Hart concludes his professional journey on a high note, having clinched the domestic treble with Celtic in the Scottish Premier League last season. Currently, Celtic finds themselves engaged in a tightly contested title race with Rangers in the ongoing season.
