Tottenham Hotspur is reportedly in talks to add a French superstar to their roster this summer, potentially injecting some seasoned leadership into the team as the Ange Postecoglou era progresses.
Under the guidance of the Australian manager, Spurs have shown promising signs in their debut season, remaining competitive for a top-four finish with an exhilarating style of play.
Following the departure of Harry Kane, Tottenham has relied on emerging talents such as Brennan Johnson, Destiny Udogie, and Pape Sarr.
However, recognizing the need for additional experience to complement their youthful vigor, the club is exploring the possibility of recruiting a proven winner at the highest level to enhance the squad.
Journalist Graeme Bailey has told The Spurs News that Postecoglou could be about to make a blockbuster signing in the form of Juventus and France star, Adrien Rabiot.
“From what we’re hearing, they do want another midfielder in. We expect Hojbjerg to leave in the summer if they can find someone.
“Ange quite likes Hojbjerg, from I’m told, but in terms of his salary and standing in the squad, they’re ready to move on and so is he. I think if they’ve got a chance at a real worldie central midfielder, I think they’ll pull the trigger on it, I do.
“There are a few options out there, Rabiot on a free. They are in conversations and looking around. He’s one of the best free agents on the market and has had a brilliant season for Juventus.”
Rabiot made the switch to Turin on a free transfer in 2019 and has since been consistently linked with potential moves to England. Despite swirling rumors, Rabiot’s mother and agent Veronique refuted claims last year that he was on the verge of joining Manchester United. However, she clarified that their rapport with the Red Devils remained positive, leaving the possibility of a future move open.
“United wanted to meet me to illustrate their interest in Adrien, but we never talked about money in detail because he quickly decided to stay in Turin,” she claimed. “There were never any real negotiations, and we are on excellent terms with Manchester United.”
Rabiot has showcased solid form for Juventus this season, featuring in 21 matches as part of the Old Lady’s push for the title. Yet, despite his evident talent, the 28-year-old French international has often found himself embroiled in controversy and labeled as challenging to handle by certain quarters. These factors raise doubts about the feasibility of a potential transfer to work under Postecoglou at Tottenham Hotspur.
