Lucas Beltran elaborated on his choice to join Fiorentina over Roma and Real Madrid, as well as his decision to represent Argentina instead of Italy at the international level.
The 22-year-old forward completed his transfer from River Plate to Fiorentina last summer for a reported fee of approximately €12.6 million, signing a five-year contract with the club. Demonstrating promise in his initial six months in Italy, Beltran has tallied eight goals in 32 appearances.
Having been presented with the opportunity to play for both the Argentina and Italy national teams, Beltran ultimately opted for Argentina, citing personal and familial sentiments. While he is yet to make his senior debut for Argentina, it is anticipated that he will earn a call-up in the near future.
In an interview with Eurosport, Beltran reflected on his decision-making process, stating, “Yes, it was a possibility. The two call-ups arrived simultaneously, from Scaloni and Mancini. I had to make a choice. I chose the Argentina squad due to my familial ties and personal sentiments. Although the opportunity to represent Italy was also present, I made my decision from the heart.”
Regarding his selection of Fiorentina over Roma and Real Madrid, Beltran disclosed, “Indeed, Roma, Fiorentina, and Real Madrid reached out to me. I chose Florence because I felt a strong connection to the club. One day, I woke up and told my brother, ‘I want to go to Fiorentina.’ It was evident that Fiorentina exhibited the most genuine interest in me, and they truly desired my presence.”
He continued, “Moreover, I was captivated by the city, the training facilities, Viola Park, and the overall lifestyle of the people. I am immensely content here, and I believe I made the right decision.”
In discussing his aspirations with Fiorentina for the current season, Beltran emphasized the importance of remaining grounded and dedicated to achieving success. He expressed ambition to surpass the previous season’s performance and strive for qualification to the Europa League.
