Lautaro Martinez has solidified his status as one of Serie A’s premier goal scorers, joining an elite group of strikers to have netted more than 20 goals in three consecutive seasons in the league over the past 65 years. His achievement places him alongside the likes of Gabriel Batistuta, Antonio Di Natale, Edinson Cavani, and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Martinez, known as “El Toro,” currently leads the Serie A scoring charts with 22 goals in 23 league appearances. His pivotal brace against Lecce propelled Inter Milan to a commanding 4-0 victory at the Stadio Via Del Mare on Sunday.
Notably, Martinez’s milestone extends beyond his current campaign, as he has now amassed a total of 101 goals in Italy’s top flight. His consistency in surpassing the 20-goal mark for three consecutive Serie A seasons further underscores his prowess in front of goal.
According to data from Opta, shared on social media platform X, Martinez joins a select group of players including Batistuta, Di Natale, Cavani, and Ronaldo in achieving this feat in recent history. Di Natale notably accomplished this feat in four successive seasons with Udinese, from 2009-10 to 2012-13.
Martinez’s achievement is particularly noteworthy as he has surpassed the 21-goal mark in a single Serie A campaign for the first time in his career, having previously achieved tallies of 21 goals in both the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons.
