Monza secured their second consecutive victory, further isolating Salernitana at the bottom of the Serie A table. Goals from Daniel Maldini and Matteo Pessina secured the win, despite a spirited performance from the home side under their new manager, Fabio Liverani.
Salernitana, missing key players through injury, started brightly. Within the first minute, Samuele Birindelli’s cross found Milan Djuric, whose volley struck the upright. Djuric continued to threaten, with a header narrowly missing the target moments later. Guillermo Ochoa then produced a stunning reaction save to deny Armando Izzo from close range.
Grigoris Kastanos attempted to spark a Salernitana comeback, but his long-range effort went just wide. Roberto Gagliardini deflected Antonio Candreva’s shot wide, before narrowly missing the target himself with a header.
The second half continued with both sides exchanging chances. Monza threatened from set pieces, with Djuric’s header cleared off the line and Gagliardini denied a tap-in by a phenomenal Ochoa save. Luca Caldirola thwarted another Salernitana opportunity, deflecting Kastanos’ effort after good work from Candreva.
However, the momentum shifted decisively in Monza’s favor soon after. Daniel Maldini combined effectively with Gagliardini on the left flank, beating Ochoa with a well-placed shot to give the visitors the lead.
Monza quickly doubled their advantage through a well-executed counter-attack. Djuric flicked on Di Gregorio’s long goal kick, allowing Matteo Pessina to showcase his technical prowess with a delightful lob over Ochoa, sealing the victory for Monza.
