Fiorentina has officially announced the discharge of Ivory Coast international Christian Kouame from the hospital after receiving treatment for malaria. Kouame, who had contracted the disease during his participation in the Africa Cup of Nations, returned to training in Florence but began feeling unwell on Tuesday night. Subsequently, he was hospitalized, and tests confirmed the presence of malaria.
In a statement released today, Fiorentina confirmed Kouame’s release from the hospital, emphasizing that he continues to receive treatment under the care of Professor Bartoloni at the Careggi Hospital for Infectious Diseases. Kouame’s case is part of a larger trend, as several players contracted malaria during the Africa Cup of Nations held in the Ivory Coast from January to mid-February.
It is important to note that malaria is transmitted through mosquito bites and is not contagious from person to person. Despite Kouame’s absence, Fiorentina is preparing for their upcoming Serie A fixture against Lazio on Monday, with coach Vincenzo Italiano having a list of available players at his disposal.
