Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi addressed the absence of Hakan Calhanoglu and expressed his confidence in Emil Audero’s debut in goal as they prepare to face Lecce in Serie A.
Calhanoglu, despite being included in the traveling squad, picked up a knock in training and is unavailable for the match. Inzaghi revealed the player’s status remains uncertain for Wednesday’s rescheduled clash with Atalanta.
“This is a dangerous fixture,” Inzaghi cautioned on DAZN. “Lecce are having a strong season, particularly at home, so we need maximum focus.”
Despite missing Thuram, Cuadrado, Sensi, and Acerbi due to injuries, Inter are aiming to extend their winning streak in all competitions this year.
“This is a demanding schedule, and we must manage our players’ energy and playing time carefully,” Inzaghi acknowledged. “However, our effort and focus must remain consistent in every game.”
The absence of first-choice goalkeeper Yann Sommer due to flu opens the door for Audero to make his Serie A debut for Inter.
“The weather is not ideal, but Audero has extensive experience with over 200 Serie A appearances,” Inzaghi said, expressing confidence in the goalkeeper. “He has integrated well, has Champions League and Coppa Italia experience, and I have been considering giving him this opportunity for a while. I have full faith in him.”
With heavy rain drenching the pitch in Lecce, Inter will be looking to maintain their impressive defensive record of 15 clean sheets in 24 Serie A games this season.
