La Liga president Javier Tebas has weighed in on Real Madrid’s pursuit of Kylian Mbappe. The Spanish club is reportedly nearing a deal to secure the services of the French captain from Paris Saint-Germain in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Mbappe has publicly expressed his desire to depart PSG when his contract concludes at the end of the season, with Real Madrid emerging as his preferred destination. However, as of now, neither party has officially confirmed an agreement, as negotiations between Real Madrid and Mbappe’s representatives are still ongoing.
Tebas has asserted that the deal is nearing completion, stating it is “99% complete,” with Real Madrid prepared to offer Mbappe a substantial contract at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. Despite concerns over the potential financial implications of Mbappe’s salary, Tebas has assured that Real Madrid is not at risk of breaching financial fair play regulations. He emphasized that the club is in a robust economic position and has made prudent financial preparations for Mbappe’s acquisition, affirming that no player sales are necessary to fund the deal.
Both Real Madrid and PSG are still active in the Champions League this season, which could delay the finalization of the transfer until after their potential meeting in the competition. Both clubs are well-positioned to advance to the quarterfinals, with Real Madrid holding a first-leg lead over RB Leipzig, while PSG leads Real Sociedad by a 2-0 margin.
