Inter Milan’s wing-back, Denzel Dumfries, has expressed openness to the prospect of extending his contract with the club, despite widespread speculation linking him with a departure from San Siro this upcoming summer.
Reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport on Friday suggest that Dumfries is not completely convinced about leaving Inter for various reasons, indicating a potential negotiation with the club in the months leading up to the conclusion of the 2023-24 season.
According to Gazzetta, Dumfries’ representatives have engaged in discussions with Inter’s officials in recent weeks regarding the possibility of a contract renewal.
The Dutch international reportedly harbors concerns about securing a move to another top-tier club, particularly one with aspirations for success in domestic leagues and the Champions League, offering comparable playing time and financial incentives to his current arrangement with Inter.
Dumfries’ existing contract is scheduled to expire at the conclusion of the following season, in the summer of 2025. Consequently, Inter had initially considered offloading him to another club this summer to avoid losing him on a free transfer the subsequent year.
Furthermore, Inter bolstered their squad during the January transfer window with the acquisition of Tajon Buchanan for a reported €12 million fee, signaling a potential succession plan for Dumfries in the right-wing back role under Simone Inzaghi.
Various Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Aston Villa, have surfaced in both Italian and English media as potential suitors for Dumfries in recent weeks, further fueling speculation surrounding his future.
