Manor Solomon will be hoping to make his comeback from injury in the not-too-distant future after last featuring for Tottenham in the 2-1 win over Liverpool in September
Manor Solomon’s absence from the Tottenham lineup dates back to the conclusion of September. Having committed to a long-term deal with Spurs in July, following a loan spell at Fulham from Shakhtar Donetsk, the winger was expected to provide an offensive spark under Ange Postecoglou’s management, thanks to his prowess in the attacking third.
Despite initially struggling with a knee injury during his stint at Fulham, Solomon found his rhythm in the latter half of the campaign. Notably, his standout performances in the Champions League for Shakhtar, including two goals against Real Madrid, showcased his potential impact. With attributes suited to thrive in Postecoglou’s tactical setup, the Israeli winger wasted no time making an impression at Spurs, contributing two assists in the victory over Burnley.
Following his appearance against Sheffield United and subsequent cameos against Arsenal and Liverpool, Manor Solomon’s last outing in a Tottenham jersey occurred during the thrilling 2-1 victory over Liverpool. However, shortly after this match, the club confirmed that Solomon had sustained a meniscus injury to his right knee during training, sidelining him for an estimated three to four months.
Now, after a total absence of over four months, Ange Postecoglou revealed a recent setback in Solomon’s recovery. The manager disclosed that the player underwent another knee procedure on Monday, although it was described as minor. Nevertheless, this setback is expected to prolong Solomon’s absence by another two to three weeks.
With a two-week hiatus in their Premier League schedule due to the postponement of their Chelsea fixture slated for this Friday, Manor Solomon has an extended period to focus on his recovery from injury, aiming to return to the fold sooner rather than later. Given Tottenham’s recent offensive struggles against Wolves, Ange Postecoglou could benefit from having another attacking option available as they continue their pursuit of Champions League qualification.
Since Solomon’s last appearance for Tottenham, there have been notable changes in the squad dynamics. Brennan Johnson has enjoyed a consistent run of games after a slow start to his tenure at Spurs, while Bryan Gil has returned to availability after being sidelined with injury during Solomon’s previous spell in the matchday squad.
With Timo Werner now in the mix following his loan move from RB Leipzig, and Son Heung-min returning to his usual position on the left wing, Manor Solomon faces increased competition in Tottenham’s attacking lineup. This heightened competition could serve as motivation for Solomon to perform at his best as Spurs aim for a top-four finish.
Despite his relatively brief stint at Tottenham, Solomon has left a lasting impression, particularly on James Maddison. In the matchday programme for the Wolves game, Maddison participated in the ‘Getting To Know’ feature, where he shared his thoughts on various topics, including Solomon’s impact at the club.
Asked who is the most skilful player in the team, Maddison opted against players such as Son, Dejan Kulusevski and Giovani Lo Celso and instead went for Solomon as his choice. He said: “In terms of actual skills, tricks and quick feet I’d probably say Manor Solomon, one of the sharpest players I’ve ever seen.”
Showing his searing pace and quality on the ball in the opening couple of months of his Tottenham career, Solomon will be looking to make up for lost time once he has finally recovered from his injury. Set to be eased back into action once he is available again, the Israeli could prove to be a fantastic weapon off the bench for the Lilywhites in their remaining fixtures as they look to pip Aston Villa and Manchester United to a Champions League berth.
