The ex-Newcastle and Liverpool forward is adapting smoothly to his new surroundings at Amiens and is committed to pursuing his journey in Ligue 2 BKT with the Somme-based club.
Andy Carroll made headlines on both sides of the English Channel when he joined Ligue 2 BKT outfit Amiens last summer. With 353 appearances and 86 goals in the Premier League and English Football Leagues under his belt, the former England international opted for a fresh challenge in France’s second division.
Andy Carroll, the former Newcastle and Liverpool striker, is thoroughly enjoying his time with Amiens, embracing both the lifestyle in a new country and his adjusted role on the pitch. In a recent interview with L’Équipe, Carroll expressed his satisfaction, saying, “I didn’t know what to expect. I knew I wanted a new challenge. I had options in England, but in my mind and heart I wanted to try something else.”
At Amiens, Andy Carroll, formerly of West Ham, has participated in 20 Ligue 2 BKT matches this season, yet has only managed three goals for Les Licornes. This can be attributed largely to his altered role on the field under Amiens manager Omar Daf. Carroll explained, “He wants me to be a sort of number 10, to drop deeper into midfield and act as a link between midfield and the striker. It’s a position I’ve never really played in, but I like it. It’s good for me and for the team.”
Off the field, Carroll appears to be enjoying life in his new surroundings. He remarked, “I love living here. It’s peaceful and relaxed. Everyone’s friendly. Obviously, it’s a very small town. So you see everyone all the time, they recognize you, and you can have conversations.”
Despite being 35 years old, Carroll has no immediate plans to retire from playing football. He expressed his desire to extend his stay at Amiens, stating, “My plan is to continue playing. Obviously, I’d like to have another year at Amiens. If not, I’ll look for an opportunity to play elsewhere. For the moment, I’m not looking to retire. I love playing football.”
