Liverpool is facing the prospect of being without Alisson for a minimum of one month, as confirmed by the Brazil manager. The goalkeeper’s absence was evident in Saturday’s 4-1 victory over Brentford due to a hamstring injury. Consequently, Caoimhin Kelleher is expected to deputize in goal for upcoming fixtures, including the Carabao Cup Final on Sunday.
Jurgen Klopp indicated on Tuesday that Liverpool is still evaluating the extent of Alisson’s absence. However, Brazil coach Dorival Junior has stated that Alisson will be unavailable for their March fixtures against England and Spain.
This news comes as a significant setback for Liverpool’s title aspirations, as Alisson will miss crucial matches against Nottingham Forest, Manchester City, and Everton.
In an interview with TNT Sports Brasil, the Brazil head coach said Alisson, Neymar and Matheus Cunha would all miss the March games.
“In terms of possible call-ups, all the names mentioned are important players and have some prominence in their teams”, he said.
“They would indeed be on a pre-list. In particular, some players who had slightly more serious injuries, such as Alisson, Matheus Cunha, Joao Pedro and even Neymar, are totally removed from any possibility at this moment.
“Not that we were already defined by the name of one or the other. In this extensive list we have, some of these would no longer allow us to be called up at this moment.”
