Pete O’Rourke has disclosed that Mats Wieffer and Lutsharel Geertruida from Feyenoord are being targeted by Liverpool for potential transfers.
According to Football Insider, it is understood that Arne Slot, the current Feyenoord manager, is on the verge of becoming the next boss at Anfield, following Jurgen Klopp’s departure this summer.
O’Rourke suggests that Slot may bring along Wieffer, a 24-year-old defensive midfielder, and Geertruida, a 23-year-old defender, to Liverpool.
Wieffer has participated in 42 matches across all competitions this season, playing in defensive midfield as well as central midfield. It is anticipated that he will compete for the Netherlands in Euro 2024.
According to O’Rourke’s statement to Football Insider, the player has caught the attention of Liverpool, as he has been scouted by the Reds and various other Premier League clubs prior to Slot being associated with the Anfield position.
Geertruida has made 44 appearances under Slot this season, showcasing versatility by playing in various positions across the backline such as centre-back, right-back, and left-back, frequently taking on the role of captain.
Rumors of a transfer to Anfield gained momentum after the player was spotted attending the recent match between Liverpool and West Ham at the London Stadium.
