Liverpool initiated discussions with Feyenoord on Wednesday regarding Slot’s potential hiring.
The Dutchman expressed his interest in the position to ESPN before Feyenoord’s 3-1 league triumph on Thursday over Go Ahead Eagles.
“It is evident to me that I am keen on working there,” Slot stated.
“All I can disclose is that negotiations are ongoing between the clubs. I am patiently waiting.”
He expressed his belief that Liverpool and Feyenoord would be able to come to an agreement.
Slot, aged 45, guided Feyenoord to the 2022-23 Eredivisie championship and this season’s Dutch Cup, and he has previously been linked with Tottenham Hotspur and Leeds United.
If Slot is appointed, Liverpool will need to discuss a fee with Feyenoord, as he does not have a release clause for this summer.
While there is one in his contract, it cannot be activated until next year.
On Wednesday, Reds captain Virgil van Dijk mentioned that Slot’s playing philosophy would be a good fit for the club, labeling him as “one of the better Dutch coaches at the moment.”
Slot’s attacking style, his leadership qualities, and his knack for player development are considered crucial elements in his candidacy as Liverpool’s top choice.
He assumed the role of Feyenoord manager in 2021 and expressed his desire to manage in the Premier League when he was associated with Spurs in 2023.
Although Xabi Alonso was a contender for the Anfield position, he declared in March that he would stick with Bayer Leverkusen. Meanwhile, there were speculations about Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim being a potential candidate.
Jurgen Klopp has been at the helm of Liverpool since October 2015, but he revealed in January that he would depart at the conclusion of the season.
