It is understood that Manchester City is open to considering offers for Jack Grealish during the upcoming summer transfer window, as the possibility of a surprising sale is becoming more likely.
Manager Pep Guardiola reportedly has some doubts about the winger’s performance, deeming him expendable even though he has been a regular starter in most of the team’s important matches this season.
While the club’s decision-makers have not reached a final verdict, Grealish, aged 28, is seen as a valuable asset who could potentially be transferred for a significant sum to finance other acquisitions.
Jack Grealish joined Etihad in the summer of 2021 for a then British-record fee of £100million from Aston Villa. He played a crucial role in City’s treble-winning campaign last season. This season, he has appeared in 33 matches across all competitions, but has only started nine Premier League games.
His performance in terms of goals and assists falls short compared to his superstar teammates. Despite this, Guardiola has shown faith in him by giving him starts in important matches, such as both legs of the Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid and the FA Cup semi-final victory against Chelsea on Saturday (20 April).
Following their goalless draw against Arsenal on 31 March, Grealish found himself in the spotlight as Guardiola gave him a stern talking-to on the field, expressing his apparent displeasure with the player’s brief 29-minute appearance at the Etihad.
Grealish has contributed three goals and three assists in the current season, accumulating a total of 2024 minutes of play for the club. His most recent goal was scored during City’s 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace in December.
