Manchester United has made the decision to maintain their defensive partnership of Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martinez, despite the concerns surrounding their injuries.
The club is preparing for significant alterations in their defense during the upcoming transfer window, with some players expected to depart and new additions anticipated.
Nevertheless, the recently appointed part-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, along with his company INEOS, has chosen to support Lindelof and Martinez in their defensive roles.
The recent discussions in town have revolved around the future of the duo at the club due to their persistent injury issues. Despite speculations hinting at a possible departure for both center-backs, the club has reached a decision regarding their status. It has been confirmed that negotiations for their exit will not take place.
Lindelof has been associated with Manchester United since 2017. Although he faced a period where he fell down the pecking order, the Swedish international managed to earn a place in Erik ten Hag’s plans last season. Anticipated to play a crucial role this season as well, injuries have restricted him to just 27 appearances.
On the other hand, Martinez was a significant signing for the club in the summer of 2022. Making an immediate impact, he quickly became a key player. However, the current season has been challenging for him, with the Argentine international featuring in only 11 matches due to serious injuries.
While Lindelof’s contract is set to expire in 2025, reports have suggested that the club might consider selling him in the upcoming transfer window. Despite Martinez having more than three years left on his contract, his struggles with injuries this season have raised doubts about his future as well.
