Despite Barcelona’s strong desire to keep midfielder Gavi, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has not given up hope of signing him. PSG had identified the Spain international as a potential transfer target last summer, aiming to bring in a promising young player to revolutionize their midfield. According to L’Equipe, Gavi remains high on their list of options.
However, signing the 19-year-old will not be an easy task for the French champions. Barcelona has no interest in selling one of their prized assets, and Gavi’s contract, which runs until 2026, includes a release clause of €1 billion (£858m/$1.1bn).
Barcelona’s ongoing financial difficulties may provide a potential route for PSG to secure Gavi’s signature. The Camp Nou side might need to offload some star players before they can invest in new ones. Nevertheless, coach Xavi has emphasized the importance of keeping Gavi at the club, stating that he should be one of the future team captains.
Unfortunately, Gavi is currently sidelined with an anterior cruciate ligament injury and will not be able to participate when Barcelona faces PSG in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The reigning La Liga champions will meet the French side in Paris on Wednesday.
