Thiago Motta maintains that Bologna’s performance against Frosinone remained unaffected by Roma’s victory over Lazio, emphasizing his team’s deserving nature of a win.
Bologna, playing against Frosinone at the Stadio Stirpe on Sunday, settled for a goalless draw, missing an opportunity to momentarily surpass Juventus in the Serie A standings. Meanwhile, Juventus is set to face Fiorentina at the Allianz Stadium tonight.
Furthermore, Bologna’s draw has resulted in Roma trailing the Rossoblu by three points following their triumph over Lazio on Saturday.
In a post-match press briefing, Motta addressed the issue, dismissing any influence Roma’s outcome might have had on his team’s performance against Frosinone.
“Let’s establish that our discussion revolves around Roma,” Motta stated, as cited by TMW. “The current circumstances were unforeseeable at the season’s outset. Despite delivering a commendable performance today, we find ourselves in a situation where victory eluded us, albeit deserving. Such is the nature of football. Our players exhibited exceptional determination; we endured minimal hardship and exerted ourselves to secure the win. We refrain from fixating on the standings, recognizing that numerous fixtures remain.”
When a journalist pointed out that the gap in the table between Bologna and Frosinone was not accentuated by the day’s encounter, the former Italian international contested this assertion.
“I firmly believe that our victory was merited, not Frosinone’s,” he countered. “The draw, in my view, was unjust. While I respect your perspective, I hold a differing opinion.”
Bologna ranks fifteenth in Serie A in terms of wage expenditure, with Roma occupying the third position, trailing behind Inter and Juventus.
Having accumulated 58 points from 31 matches, Bologna’s forthcoming Serie A fixture is scheduled against Monza at the Stadio Dall’Ara on April 13th.
