Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly looking to offload a pair of midfielders who have fallen out of favor during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Despite significant changes to the Lilywhites XI under Ange Postecoglou’s management, the two-man midfield pivot has remained a constant feature in the team.
Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr, who struggled to impress under Conte, have now become key players in Postecoglou’s system, contributing to Spurs’ strong start to the season.
While Tottenham is no longer in the title race, they are close to the top four, with Rodrigo Bentancur returning from injury to add competition in midfield.
With Sarr, Bissouma, and Bentancur vying for spots, other midfielders are finding it hard to get playing time, leading to potential departures in the summer.
According to reports, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is one player who could leave, having gone from a regular starter to a fringe player under Postecoglou.
Hojbjerg, who was a key figure in Conte’s system, has struggled for game time this season, with only six league starts out of 28 appearances.
The Danish midfielder, who has not scored or assisted this season, is unlikely to extend his contract with Tottenham, which expires next year. Bids in the range of £20m to £25m are expected to be considered by the club.
Juventus and other Serie A clubs continue to monitor the situation closely, with Hojbjerg himself eager to secure a move away from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before his contract expires in 2025.
Apart from Hojbjerg, Tottenham are looking to sell Giovani Lo Celso, who was expected to leave last summer after his loan spell at Villarreal ended.
To the surprise of Spurs fans, Lo Celso decided to stay in North London and prove himself under Postecoglou, scoring goals in consecutive Premier League matches against Aston Villa and Manchester City in the winter.
Despite assisting two goals against Bournemouth on New Year’s Eve, the Argentine has struggled with injuries and has yet to start a Premier League game in 2024, making only four appearances in the starting lineup this season.
With his contract expiring in 2025, reports suggest that the 27-year-old is unhappy with his lack of playing time at Tottenham and is eager to depart the club this summer.
Tottenham are likely to grant Lo Celso’s wish and are looking to sell him for a fee this summer to avoid losing him on a free transfer in just over a year.
