Manchester United and Chelsea are said to be interested in acquiring AC Milan defender Theo Hernandez. The French player has accumulated more than 200 appearances since his transfer from Real Madrid to Milan in 2019.
Hernandez is considered a crucial player in Stefano Pioli’s team, evident from him wearing the captain’s armband on multiple occasions this season.
With 38 appearances in various competitions this season, he has contributed significantly to Milan’s attacking play with five goals and 10 assists.
Despite his importance to Milan, there are rumors linking Hernandez with a potential departure from San Siro this summer.
Reports from Fichajes suggest that both Man United and Chelsea are contemplating a move for Hernandez ahead of the 2024-25 season. Man United is reportedly looking to reinforce their left defensive side due to injuries faced by Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia this season.
Consequently, manager Erik ten Hag has had to deploy Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Diogo Dalot, and Victor Lindelof as makeshift left-backs.
Similarly, Chelsea has also struggled with left-back injuries, with Marc Cucurella returning after a three-month absence and Ben Chilwell facing ongoing injury concerns.
According to journalist Matteo Moretto, Bayern Munich is considering Hernandez as a replacement for Alphonso Davies, which could pose competition for Manchester United and Chelsea in securing his signature.
Hernandez, who has two years remaining on his Milan contract, is also attracting interest from Saudi Arabia. While Bayern is interested in extending his stay, they are making contingency plans for Davies’s potential departure.
Meanwhile, Hernandez is being linked with a move to Real Madrid, the Spanish giants. At this stage, there have been no talks about extending his current deal, and it is believed that AC Milan will demand a fee between €70m (£59.9m) and €80m (£68.5m) for his transfer in the summer window.
