According to a report by Italian publication Calciomercato, Manchester United is actively pursuing the acquisition of Juventus defender Gleison Bremer during the upcoming summer transfer window.
The English club is anticipated to strengthen its central defensive lineup due to uncertainties surrounding the contract of Raphael Varane, whose current agreement with Manchester United is set to expire in June. It has been decided by Manchester United not to extend Varane’s contract for another year, primarily due to the high salary demands, and there are no ongoing discussions regarding a renewal.
Bremer has emerged as a potential successor to Varane, who is a 2018 World Cup winner, and Calciomercato asserts that Manchester United is aggressively pursuing his transfer from Juventus. It is reported that Juventus is willing to entertain a summer transfer if Manchester United presents an offer ranging between £51 million and £60 million for the highly talented Brazilian defender.
Quality signing
Varane has consistently provided a sturdy presence in the central defensive line for Manchester United, yet his susceptibility to injuries has been notable. In a recent match against Brentford, the French player was substituted due to an injury concern, underscoring the need for a more dependable figure to anchor the team’s defense in forthcoming fixtures. Bremer emerges as a potential solution given his extensive experience and adept defensive skills.
Formerly of Torino, Bremer possesses formidable physical attributes complemented by proficiency in ball distribution, rendering him a versatile asset as a ball-playing center-back. Additionally, the 27-year-old demonstrates a penchant for clearing defensive lines and exhibits prowess in reclaiming possession through recovery efforts. Such attributes align well with the rigorous demands of the Premier League, prompting speculation that Manchester United may invest substantially to secure his services, particularly with Varane’s potential departure from the club looming.
The prospect of recruiting another center-back alongside Bremer remains uncertain. Jonny Evans appears poised to depart upon the expiration of his contract in June, while Victor Lindelof is set to enter the final year of his contractual agreement this summer. Similarly, Harry Maguire faces a similar contractual situation to Lindelof, although Manchester United retains the option to extend his tenure for an additional twelve months.
