The Italian sports newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport has reported that AC Milan is facing the prospect of needing a substantial financial outlay of at least €100 million to extend the contracts of six key players, notably including Theo Hernandez and Mike Maignan.
While only two players from the Milan squad, Luka Jovic and Simon Kjaer, have contracts expiring in the upcoming June, the club’s management is also actively addressing deals set to conclude in 2025 and 2026. Notable among these are Alessandro Florenzi and Davide Calabria, whose contracts expire in 2025, and Yacine Adli, Matteo Gabbia, Theo Hernandez, and Maignan, whose contracts are set to expire in 2026.
La Gazzetta forecasts that negotiations with Adli and Gabbia are likely to proceed smoothly, whereas Calabria may seek a salary increase beyond his current earnings of €2.2 million per season as the team’s captain.
However, the primary focus for AC Milan’s management lies in securing new agreements with Hernandez and Maignan. Both players, who are French internationals, have garnered interest from prominent clubs across Europe. Consequently, the Milan leadership is prepared to engage in discussions with the duo to secure their future at the club.
According to La Gazzetta’s analysis, AC Milan will need to propose a new four-year contract with an annual salary ranging between €5.5 million to €6 million to Hernandez and Maignan, representing a net expense of at least €80 million. This indicates that AC Milan’s financial commitment for contract extensions with Theo, Maignan, and the other four players will surpass €100 million.
In the case of Maignan, it is noteworthy that certain sources within Italy suggest that the former Lille goalkeeper may demand an even higher salary, potentially reaching €8 million per season.
