Bayern Munich is set to challenge Arsenal and Liverpool in the race to sign Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Zubimendi, who has a release clause of €60m (£51.4m) in his contract, has attracted interest from several top clubs. Arsenal and Liverpool have been monitoring the 25-year-old, with Bayern Munich now entering the fray as they seek to bolster their midfield options.
The German champions are keen on adding a defensive midfielder to their squad after failing to secure Joao Palhinha last year.
Zubimendi, who is reportedly open to a move to Germany, is expected to make a transfer as Sociedad are unlikely to qualify for the Champions League this season.
The San Sebastián-born player has accumulated 184 appearances for his current club. Bayern’s pursuit of Zubimendi will depend on the appointment of their new head coach, following Thomas Tuchel’s departure.
Additionally, the futures of Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka, both entering the final year of their contracts, will need to be clarified by the club.
