Georgia’s national football team, led by Kvicha Kvaratskhelia, secured their qualification for Euro 2024 subsequent to prevailing over Greece in a decisive penalty shoot-out. Despite this achievement, the team faced a setback as the prominent Napoli player sustained an injury during the match.
Marking their inaugural participation in a major tournament, Georgia is slated to enter Group F alongside Turkey, Czechia, and Portugal. The forthcoming competition, scheduled from June 14 to July 14, is set to be hosted by Germany.
The journey to qualification was arduous for Georgia, commencing with a 2-0 victory over a 10-man Luxembourg in the play-off semi-final. Subsequently, they encountered a stalemate against Greece, resulting in a goalless draw even after 120 minutes of play. The team ultimately secured their place in Euro 2024 through a penalty shoot-out, albeit without the participation of Kvaratskhelia due to his departure from the field due to a groin injury in the 109th minute.
This unfortunate injury raises concerns regarding Kvaratskhelia’s availability for Napoli, particularly in their upcoming Serie A fixture against Atalanta, where they contend for European ambitions. Scheduled to commence at 11:30 GMT on Saturday, the timeframe for recovery is notably constrained.
Furthermore, Napoli’s forward Victor Osimhen is also uncertain for the aforementioned match, having been sidelined from international duty with Nigeria due to inflammation stemming from a previous thigh injury.
