According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United will wait for the arrival of their incoming chief executive, Omar Berrada, before making a decision on Erik ten Hag’s future at the club.
Berrada, who was previously City’s chief football operating officer, made the decision to join United in January. The report states that co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe will delegate the decision on Ten Hag to Berrada once he takes on the role in the summer.
Ratcliffe does not want to intervene and intends to rely on Berrada’s football expertise. The Ineos sporting director, Sir Dave Brailsford, has been attending most of United’s matches since the petrochemicals group acquired a stake in the club. However, a source has stated that Brailsford will not have the final say on Ten Hag’s position.
United would prefer a settled structure to oversee any managerial changes, but the anticipated arrival of Dan Ashworth from Newcastle United is not expected to happen soon. John Murtough remains the football director, although Ratcliffe downplayed his role in a recent round-table discussion with journalists. It is expected that Ten Hag will continue with United until the end of the season, following a successful period that included a spirited FA Cup quarter-final victory over Liverpool on March 17th at Old Trafford.
