Barcelona club president Joan Laporta has expressed his belief that Real Madrid is facing a problem with the imminent signing of Kylian Mbappe. The French forward is set to leave Paris Saint-Germain when his contract expires this summer and is currently in talks with Madrid for a lucrative move to the Spanish capital.
Laporta, however, has taken the opportunity to create some tension before Mbappe’s expected transfer to Madrid. He suggests that Barca’s bitter rivals may face difficulties in managing the dressing room dynamics and might even need to sell players to accommodate this high-profile signing.
When asked if he would be envious of Madrid signing Mbappe, Laporta responded by saying that he is not envious at all and that he is unsure whether the transfer will happen or not.
He believes that Madrid has a problem on their hands because they would have to sell a player if Mbappe joins, as both players cannot occupy the same position on the field. Laporta also emphasizes that the presence of two strong players like Mbappe and their current star player would create a distortion in the locker room, which is not ideal.
It was previously reported by 90min that Mbappe rejected PSG’s contract offer and returned €80m in waived bonuses. Madrid, on the other hand, is keen on offering Mbappe terms similar to what was suggested when he was a free agent in 2022.
This includes a yearly salary of €30m and signing-on fees of €130m, along with the opportunity to compete in a more high-profile market to attract further sponsorships. However, Madrid is hesitant to allow Mbappe to participate in the Olympics this summer, which will be held in his home country.
Apart from Mbappe, Madrid is also exploring the possibility of signing Alphonso Davies, whose contract with Bayern Munich expires in 2025. Bayern’s stance is that the Canadian winger must either sign a new deal in the coming weeks or be sold this summer. Madrid has already reached an agreement on personal terms with Davies and is considering a move either this year or the next.
