This season, Gakpo has been rotating with Nunez and Diogo Jota as options for the center-forward position. Among these choices, Núñez has been the most effective, scoring eight goals in 24 matches. Jota and Gakpo, on the other hand, have contributed four goals each, with Jota playing in seven games and Gakpo in eleven.
Each player brings a unique set of skills to the team. Even Nunez, who is considered a more traditional center-forward, appears to be more comfortable playing out wide. Gakpo, as mentioned earlier, often plays as a false nine, dropping into the space between Liverpool’s midfield and forward lines.
Jota is similar in that he can operate in the half-space between the full-back and center-back, using his speed to make runs behind the defense. However, unlike Gakpo, Jota prefers to receive the ball while facing the goal.
Gakpo, on the other hand, combines elements of both players. He is technically gifted, able to progress the ball effectively, and has a direct approach to the game. Standing at 6-foot-4, he can receive the ball with his back to the goal and link up with the midfield, but he is also capable of turning and attacking open spaces.
