Manchester United is currently exploring the prospect of a potential swap deal with Borussia Dortmund, aiming to facilitate the permanent departure of winger Jadon Sancho to the Bundesliga club. Sancho, who has faced exclusion from the Manchester United first team since the beginning of the season under the management of Erik ten Hag, encountered a dispute after being omitted from the squad for an away fixture against Arsenal.
Following this incident, Ten Hag publicly admonished Sancho in media statements, prompting a defensive response from the English player on social media. With neither party showing signs of relenting, Sancho was subsequently loaned out to Borussia Dortmund, where he is gradually regaining form.
Given the apparent conclusion of Sancho’s tenure at Manchester United under the current managerial regime, it appears inevitable that negotiations will ensue to finalize his departure from Old Trafford. The club is reportedly seeking a transfer fee ranging between £40 million and £50 million for the 23-year-old.
Despite the substantial valuation, reports from Football Insider suggest that Manchester United remains open to the possibility of a swap deal to resolve the situation. It is understood that Sancho would be amenable to extending his stay at Signal Iduna Park, potentially paving the way for an agreement, as Manchester United has shown interest in acquiring Donyell Malen.
Malen has emerged as a significant contributor for Borussia Dortmund throughout the 2023-24 season, featuring prominently in 33 matches across various competitions. During this period, he has registered 13 goals and provided five assists. Since his transfer from PSV Eindhoven in July 2021, the 25-year-old has established himself as a key player for the German side, accumulating a total of 106 appearances, with 32 goals and 19 assists to his credit.
Notably, Malen possesses prior experience in English football, having been part of the Arsenal academy from 2015 to 2017 before embarking on a return to the Netherlands in pursuit of senior opportunities.
Manchester United is anticipated to make significant moves in the forward department during the upcoming transfer window, with the departure of Anthony Martial also expected alongside Sancho.
