According to a report by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Birmingham midfielder Jordan James has emerged as the primary target for Atalanta, should either Ederson or Teun Koopmeiners depart during the upcoming summer transfer window.
The aforementioned source indicates that Atalanta has outlined clear plans regarding their squad for the 2024-25 season, with the 19-year-old Welsh international James being identified as their top priority for recruitment during the summer transfer period.
Atalanta’s management is cognizant of the possibility of either Koopmeiners or Ederson departing the club. It is noted that Newcastle made attempts to acquire the services of the Brazilian midfielder during the January transfer window; however, Atalanta rebuffed their advances.
Ederson has enjoyed a prolific season at the Gewiss Stadium, having scored six goals in 36 appearances across various competitions. His contract with Atalanta is set to expire in June 2026.
Meanwhile, Juventus has expressed interest in Koopmeiners, although the Dutch international has also garnered attention from several Premier League clubs, notably Manchester United, Liverpool, and Tottenham.
Should either Koopmeiners or Ederson leave Atalanta, the club is poised to pursue a deal for James. La Gazzetta further reports that Atalanta is confident that Birmingham will reconsider their initial asking price of €10 million for the promising midfielder at the conclusion of the season.
