Arsenal is reportedly leading the pursuit to secure the services of highly sought-after striker Viktor Gyokeres. The Swedish frontman has garnered attention for his impressive performances in the Portuguese league with Sporting CP, where he has flourished despite the presence of a €100 million release clause, which has not dissuaded the Gunners from expressing their keen interest. Recent reports indicate that Arsenal is positioned as the frontrunner in the race to secure Gyokeres’ signature from Sporting CP.
Gyokeres has exhibited exceptional form this season, tallying 36 goals and providing 14 assists in 39 appearances. His remarkable productivity translates to a goal or assist every 64 minutes on average. According to the reputable Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã, Arsenal is prepared to meet the substantial €100 million release clause, a significant investment justified by Gyokeres’ outstanding performances throughout the campaign.
In late February, it was disclosed that Arsenal had been closely monitoring Gyokeres due to concerns regarding the long-term fitness of Gabriel Jesus, who has grappled with knee issues. Currently valued at €55 million, Gyokeres remains under contract until 2028, having penned a five-year deal upon his arrival at Sporting CP during the summer transfer window for a fee of €21 million from Coventry City.
Having previously plied his trade in England with Brighton and Swansea, Gyokeres amassed a total of 136 appearances across all competitions, registering 45 goals and 18 assists. The bulk of his contributions came during his stint at Coventry, where he featured in 116 matches, scoring 43 goals and providing 17 assists.
Arsenal’s pursuit of Gyokeres represents a significant financial commitment, and they face stiff competition from other clubs vying for the 25-year-old’s signature.
