Francesco Totti, renowned figure in Roma’s football history, has made an unexpected assertion suggesting that the possibility of Paulo Dybala departing the Giallorossi should not be dismissed lightly, citing the Argentine’s limited appearances, averaging merely 15 games per annum. Totti conveyed his perspective during an interview with Il Corriere dello Sport at a gathering in Rome on Monday evening, advocating for Roma’s deliberation on Dybala’s potential departure during the forthcoming summer transfer window.
What Totti said about Dybala
“We are talking about a top player, but we need to understand what the club want to do in the future and their targets for next season,” said the legendary Roma and Italy striker.
“If I were a director, I’d think about a footballer who plays 15 games in a year. If I have an important target and one of my best players is available for a third of the games, I must make my assessments.”
Dybala stats in 2023-24 and release clause
The Argentinean forward has amassed a tally of 14 goals in 28 appearances throughout various competitions in the ongoing season, complemented by seven assists. However, his participation has been hindered by physical ailments, causing him to miss 13 matches, including the recent 1-0 victory over Sassuolo at the Stadio Olimpico.
Dybala’s tenure at the Stadio Olimpico is slated to conclude in June 2025. Embedded within his contract is a release clause amounting to €13 million, accessible to any foreign club. Serie A establishments, however, face a higher release clause of €20 million, albeit Roma retains the option to nullify it by extending a salary increase to the player.
Aged 30, Dybala transitioned to Roma on a no-cost transfer following the expiration of his contract with Juventus in the summer of 2022.
