Manchester United’s pursuit of Callum Olusesi appears to have been in vain, as the player has reportedly pledged his allegiance to his current team, Tottenham Hotspur.
The Peoples Person had previously reported that the Red Devils, along with other Premier League teams like Newcastle United, Leeds United, and Brighton, had shown a strong interest in the adaptable midfielder since the previous spring.
Olusesi, who hails from London, has made a name for himself in the youth leagues, participating in 18 matches in the under-18 Premier League and the FA Youth Cup, as per transfermarkt.com.
This season, the prodigious talent has netted eight goals and provided four assists across all competitions, earning him comparisons to the esteemed Yaya Toure, his former under-16 coach at Spurs and a notable ex-midfielder for Barcelona and Manchester City.
At just 17, Olusesi has also secured a spot on the England Under-17 squad, contributing two goals in seven appearances.
Despite the interest from numerous clubs, it appears the young player is set to further his development at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, having declined offers from competing teams.
“Football Insider” initially indicated United’s interest in Olusesi and now reports, based on their sources, that “Tottenham midfield sensation Callum Olusesi has signed a professional contract despite long-term interest from rivals led by Man United.”
The sources believe the young player is regarded as a ‘star in the making’ by Tottenham’s leadership, who have acted to protect their asset by first offering him a full-time scholarship and now securing his services with a professional contract.
However, Tottenham has not yet made an official statement regarding this contract.
Recently, Manchester United has repeatedly experienced setbacks in their attempts to recruit young talents from other academies.
Their efforts to acquire Chris Rigg from Sunderland seem to have been unsuccessful, as he is likely to stay with his current club.
Additionally, Archie Gray, another promising player they were monitoring, has just renewed his contract with Leeds United.
Moreover, it was reported today that United’s interest in 16-year-old Francesco Camarda from AC Milan might be thwarted due to post-Brexit regulations.
