Lazio has officially announced the resignation of Maurizio Sarri from his position as head coach, with his assistant Giovanni Martusciello stepping in as his successor. Sarri’s decision to step down comes following a string of three consecutive defeats. Reports indicate that strained relations with President Claudio Lotito and some members of the team contributed to his departure, despite having one year remaining on his contract.
Confirming Sarri’s resignation on Wednesday morning, Lazio declared that Martusciello would assume the role of interim coach. However, the club has not provided clarification regarding Martusciello’s tenure, whether he will continue until the end of the current season.
Various names have emerged as potential candidates to fill the vacant coaching position, including Igor Tudor, Raffaele Palladino, and former Lazio striker Miroslav Klose. Notably, Klose and Tudor are presently without club affiliations, while Palladino is currently contracted to Serie A side Monza.
Expressing gratitude for Sarri’s contributions, Lazio acknowledged his accomplishments and efforts during his tenure, extending best wishes for his future endeavors both on and off the pitch. Sarri, who previously managed Napoli, Juventus, and Chelsea, was appointed by Lazio in 2021 and oversaw 65 victories out of 137 matches at the Stadio Olimpico.
