Chelsea reportedly maintains an interest in acquiring the services of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Vitinha. Amid recent declarations of substantial financial losses, the approach of Chelsea towards the forthcoming summer transfer window remains uncertain.
Mauricio Pochettino himself acknowledged a level of uncertainty regarding the potential activity of the Blues in the transfer market leading up to the 2024-25 season, where compliance with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability criteria becomes imperative for the club.
In order for Chelsea to fulfill these criteria, it is anticipated that player sales will be necessary, with midfielder Conor Gallagher emerging as a potential candidate for departure due to hesitations from Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital to negotiate renewed terms with the academy graduate.
Despite possessing a plethora of options in midfield, many of the aforementioned players are either young or have endured prolonged spells on the sidelines due to injuries. Consequently, adjustments within the midfield ensemble cannot be discounted, with Chelsea potentially seeking seasoned reinforcements to alleviate the burden on Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez, alongside Gallagher should he remain at Stamford Bridge.
According to reports from HITC, Chelsea’s admiration for Vitinha dates back several seasons. The 24-year-old currently plies his trade at PSG, where he has cemented his status as a pivotal figure in central midfield since his transfer from Porto.
Throughout the 2023-24 campaign, Vitinha has accumulated 24 starts and seven substitute appearances in both Ligue 1 and the Champions League, contributing five goals and three assists. His performance since his £34 million move in 2022 has underscored his value for money at PSG and aligns with the club’s ethos of assembling a squad comprising established young talents.
Despite still having over three years remaining on his contract, it remains uncertain how PSG would respond to any opportunity to generate profit from the player’s potential sale. Furthermore, Vitinha possesses experience in English football, having made 22 appearances on loan with Wolverhampton Wanderers during the 2020-21 season, albeit accruing only 511 minutes of playing time across 19 Premier League outings.
Chelsea’s interest in Vitinha is purportedly rooted in his stellar performances for Porto during the preceding season, which ultimately led to his transfer to PSG.
