Daniele De Rossi has confirmed that he was compelled to substitute Paulo Dybala during Roma’s recent match against Fiorentina due to a minor injury concern. De Rossi expressed his hope that Dybala withdrew from the game in a timely manner. Dybala was replaced in the 73rd minute of the game at the Stadio Franchi on Sunday, as Roma managed to secure a 2-2 draw against Fiorentina.
Initially, De Rossi stated that Dybala was substituted due to fatigue, stating, “He was substituted because he felt tired, but I don’t think it was anything muscular,” during an interview with DAZN. However, during a subsequent post-match press conference, De Rossi acknowledged that Dybala had indeed sustained a minor injury. “It was a physical issue; he asked to be subbed off, but I think it’s nothing serious,” stated the former Italy international, as reported by TMW. De Rossi attributed Dybala’s condition to the fact that he has not consistently played extensive minutes throughout his career, emphasizing the importance of managing players’ fitness to prevent potential long-term absences from the squad.
TMW reports that Dybala’s condition will undergo further assessment in the coming hours. Roma is scheduled to resume play on Thursday at Brighton’s Amex Stadium for the second leg of the Europa League Round of 16. The Giallorossi hold a significant advantage after securing a 4-0 victory against Roberto De Zerbi’s side in the first leg at the Stadio Olimpico last week.
Dybala has been a pivotal contributor to Roma’s campaign this season, tallying 14 goals and providing seven assists in 28 appearances across all competitions. His contract with the Giallorossi is set to expire in June 2025.
