Sporting Lisbon’s forward Viktor Gyokeres has expressed a lack of significant concern regarding his future amid speculation linking him with potential transfers to English clubs Arsenal and Chelsea.
Having departed Championship side Coventry City for Sporting last summer in a deal reportedly worth €21 million (£17.9 million), the 25-year-old has emerged as one of the most formidable attackers in European football.
With just 36 appearances for Sporting in all competitions this season, Gyokeres has remarkably contributed to 50 goals, scoring 36 and providing 14 assists.
Given Gyokeres’ exceptional performance, it comes as no surprise that several prominent European clubs, including Arsenal and Chelsea, are rumored to be keen on acquiring his services.
Arsenal and Chelsea are keen to sign a striker
Before the commencement of the summer transfer window, Gyokeres has emerged as the primary target for Arsenal in the attacking role. The management of Arsenal, led by Mikel Arteta, intends to procure a new striker to bolster their squad.
Forecasts indicate that prominent football clubs such as Manchester United, AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, and Chelsea are poised to submit substantial bids to secure the services of Gyokeres.
Despite speculation surrounding his future, the striker has affirmed his satisfaction with his current situation at Sporting and has expressed minimal concern regarding his prospects until the summer transfer window.
The striker is paying no attention to Arsenal and Chelsea rumours
In an interview conducted by the Swedish news outlet Fotbollskanalen, Gyokeres addressed the circulating rumors regarding his future, expressing his perspective in the following manner:
“The speculation surrounding my future serves as an acknowledgment of my performances, although I maintain a level-headed approach towards it as it remains conjecture. Nonetheless, it is gratifying.”
“When considering the upcoming summer, I am uncertain about the outcome as it is beyond my current knowledge. I harbor contentment with my tenure at Sporting and do not harbor apprehension towards the approaching season transition.”
“It is evident that my endeavors have garnered attention, yet my primary focus remains on my day-to-day engagements. Nonetheless, it is indeed pleasurable to receive recognition from supporters.”
Gyokeres, representing Sweden and hailing from Stockholm, is purported to possess a release clause of €100 million (£85.5 million) within his contractual obligations with Sporting Lisbon, set to conclude in the summer of 2028.
