Manchester City will face Manchester United in a crucial match for both teams. City aims to keep the pressure on title contenders Arsenal and Liverpool, while United seeks to stay in contention for a European finish.
United’s injury list is more extensive than City’s. Despite concerns over Bruno Fernandes’ fitness after a limp following Wednesday’s FA Cup win, manager Erik ten Hag reassured that Fernandes should be available. Raphael Varane, who was doubtful for the Forest tie, is also expected to feature at the Etihad.
However, United will be without Harry Maguire, who missed Wednesday’s match and is unlikely to play on Sunday. Ten Hag stated, “I think they [Varane and Fernandes] will be available for Sunday as well.” Yet, other players like Rasmus Hojlund, Tyrell Malacia, Anthony Martial, Lisandro Martinez, Mason Mount, Luke Shaw, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka remain unavailable.
City’s injury concerns are less severe, with only two players sidelined. Jack Grealish suffered a groin injury during Wednesday’s FA Cup match and is unlikely to be fit for the derby. Centre-back Josko Gvardiol, dealing with a foot injury, is also uncertain for the United fixture.
Guardiola mentioned Gvardiol’s progress, stating, “He’s training without much pain… but he’s on the verge to come back.” Guardiola is expected to provide further updates on Grealish and Gvardiol during his pre-match press conference on Friday.
